Month after month after month. These are the leading types of businesses that get sales tax permits in Iowa. I see we also have another question from our anonymous viewer. They're asking me if labor is the same as a service. Yeah basically. The tax on services is a tax on labor. Yes, one and the same as far as that goes. Actually they're called enumerated services. Enumerated simply means they're listed in the Iowa code as being taxable. Just to spend a little bit more time on some of these services specifically. The cosmetology services. Doesn't matter if you're a barber, cosmetologist, in the old days it was always beauticians. Anything that's done to a person's hair, whether it be coloring, cutting, given a perm, something along that lines. If there's something done for a person's nails or maybe applying a facial or something for the skin. Anything that's done to enhance a person's appearance, that's done for purposes of enhancing one's appearance, that's gonna be taxable under our services of barber, cosmetology, beautician. Again, lots and lots of these pop up all the time. We have people applying for the permits to do this type of work every month. The janitorial services. This is another one that's pretty popular. As a matter of fact, we do run an audit program on this. You might be thinking what type of audit program would you be running? What we have found, there are lots of people that are very good about reporting their income on their income tax return. If you're a sole proprietor and you do some janitorial or cleaning work you would report that income on a schedule C. That's a federal schedule. Iowa does not have a schedule C so you attach a copy of the federal to your Iowa return. The department audits schedule C, meaning we look to see what type of business someone is involved in and what we're doing is we're checking to see if there should be some sales tax involved. Many times there should be sales tax involved but there is not so you'll get a letter from the department if you fall into that category. At any rate, on these janitorial services it's very common for people to maybe have a side job or a weekend job where they clean offices. Maybe they clean houses. Janitorial services for commercial buildings are taxable. However, if you clean a residence and it is paid for by the owner of the residence, that service is not subject to tax. For instance, if you work at an office and you have a janitor that comes in and cleans the office that's gonna be a taxable service. If you like that particular janitorial person and you say can you come and clean my house and you're gonna pay them to do that, if they come and clean your home, you're the resident of the home, you're paying for that service, that is not subject to Iowa sales tax. Again, we do get questions on that frequently. Again, if we have any accountants out there or tax preparers out there, keep in mind we do audit schedule C to see if there is sales tax and the janitorial...
